Shon joined the team in May 2026 when Flaharty Asset Management became Modern Wealth Management. He is the managing director of Modern Wealth’s Tampa, Florida office and has been a financial advisor since 1995.
When Shon founded Flaharty Asset Management in 2007, he did so with a clear vision to provide the financial services of a family wealth management office. He was excited for the opportunity to build upon that with Modern Wealth and see how the firm’s resources could make a difference for clients.
Shon has been a featured speaker at national business conferences on topics ranging from investment discipline to investor behavior. He earned his CFP® Professional designation during his time with Merrill Lynch, where he spent 10 years as a senior financial advisor. Shon also previously worked as a senior vice president and private client advisor at the Private Bank at Bank of America for three-plus years.
He holds his AIF® and Series 7, 24, 63, and 65 designations and life insurance, health insurance, and variable annuity licenses. In addition to earning his BBA in finance from the University of Miami, where he attended on a football athletic scholarship, he was a member of the Hurricanes’ 1983 national championship football team.
Shon has been married to his wife, Reneé, since February 1990. They have three children, Connor, Shannon, and Fallon, who is a senior advisor at Modern Wealth. As a family, the Flaharty’s are committed to giving back via charitable work and volunteering in their community. St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Morningstar School, Samaritan’s Purse, Belleair Community Foundation, and Children’s Home Society of Florida are among the organizations that Shon supports.
Shon’s interests include spending time with family, traveling, boating, drinking wine, and playing golf. He loves going on tropical vacations with his family. A fun fact about Shon is that he’s a Level 1 wine expert (WSET) and sitting for Level 2.
