As the firm’s instructional designer, Karen supports new hires and long-term employees with their professional development needs, working in partnership with business units to meet their training needs, and designing and developing eLearning, videos, job aids and more. She also serves as Modern Wealth’s Learning Management System (LMS) administrator. She loves the firm’s human-centered approach and friendly, flexible culture, and the opportunity to support people in achieving their career goals.
Karen began her career as a lecturer in English at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and later Ohio State. While taking online classes at Ohio State’s School of Education, Karen fell in love with the field of instructional design. Since earning her Master of Learning Technologies, she has worked as an instructional designer at a Fortune 100 insurance company, where she supported sales, underwriting, agribusiness, and claims. She also has supported the creation of the inaugural training organization at a logistics and transportation company.
Karen and her husband have a son and two cats. Her family enjoys going on adventures around town, including visiting the parks and libraries, doing experiments at the science museum, and seeing the lions and giraffes at the zoo. Karen loves reading, solving puzzles of all kinds (especially in escape rooms), playing board games and video games, and working out and doing martial arts.
