Mike Shimkin
Senior Advisor
Department: Advisors
Experience: Finance since 2010
Education: B.A. in International Business and Management from Dickinson College
Mike believes a financial advisor has two primary responsibilities in serving their clients. The first is to provide and demonstrate a complete financial plan that closely aligns with each client’s own unique set of needs and desires, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The other is to provide objective and dispassionate advice, particularly during times of potential market stress when emotion can tend to override rational decision-making.
Mike has prioritized those two responsibilities since joining Modern Wealth as a senior advisor in June 2025. He believes that the firm’s nimbleness and adaptability positions Modern Wealth well for the direction that he believes the financial services industry is heading.
Prior to arriving at Modern Wealth, Mike spent nearly a decade as a portfolio manager at Bank of America Private Bank in New York City, serving high net worth clients by constructing portfolios utilizing a wide-ranging set of asset classes and security types.
Mike credits his background in athletics for providing him skillsets and core principles that have been extremely translatable to many aspects of his career. He played football and baseball at the collegiate level.
Mike’s love for sports is something he shares with his three children. His oldest daughter was born one day before the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018, and his family watched the game together at the hospital on a TV no bigger than a microwave. Along with cheering on the Eagles and Phillies and living an active lifestyle, Mike enjoys reading almost anything that’s mentally stimulating — both fiction and non-fiction.
